FAQs
If you have questions we haven’t answered here, check our support page or contact Customer Care.
How is Wavello different from a regular Sorenson VRS call?
Wavello is a Sorenson VRS call with everyone on video — the deaf person, the hearing person, and the interpreter — so you can all see each other. Just like a regular Sorenson VRS call, there is no cost to use Wavello.
Can anyone use Wavello?
Yes, both deaf and hearing people can use Wavello. Once in a Sorenson VRS call, deaf people use Lumina or an ntouch product to initiate a Wavello call to a hearing person who has downloaded the Wavello app and registered their phone number.
Can I use Wavello as a Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) service, meaning the deaf and hearing people are at the same location?
No. Wavello is an option only for Sorenson VRS calls due to FCC regulations.
What if a hearing person does not receive the notification for a Wavello call on their mobile device?
They need to check that they enabled notifications for the Wavello app in their mobile device settings. If they haven’t enabled notifications, hearing users will not see incoming requests for Wavello video calls.
Can the Sorenson VRS interpreter connect the Wavello call?
No. Sorenson interpreters cannot initiate Wavello calls. They can only see if the Wavello option is available to the deaf user.
Can a hearing person call deaf friends and family from within the Wavello app?
No. The deaf person must send the video call invitation.
How does a hearing user set up the Wavello app?
Follow these easy steps:
- Download the Wavello app for your phone from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- Register the phone number they will use to communicate with deaf friends or family members.
- Make sure to click “Allow Notification” from Wavello app.
- Use headphones or speakerphone when receiving a video call through Wavello.
Can hearing people use Wavello on a tablet?
Yes, Wavello will work on an Apple iPad or an Android tablet.
Can hearing users register landline phone numbers in the Wavello app?
Yes, a user can register a landline number to Wavello if they want to use the app on a tablet without a mobile number. That person would use their landline phone to receive the call audio while answering the video call in the Wavello app on their tablet.
How does a user find the Wavello feature on Lumina and ntouch?
In a Sorenson VRS call, if the hearing person has registered their phone number with the Wavello app, you will see the Wavello icon in the in-call menu.
Do I need the Wavello app if I have a Sorenson VRS account?
No. Wavello feature is already built in on the Lumina VP and ntouch products. Only hearing users need the Wavello app.
How can I share Wavello with hearing family and friends?
In your ntouch app on iOS or Android, follow these steps:
- On iOS, go to ntouch Settings and tap on the blue button to send a text or email to the hearing person.
- On Android, tap the three vertical dots at the top right corner of the app, then select “Invite”, and then tap on the “Wavello” option. You will see the text and email options available in the Android operating system.
Do I need a Sorenson VRS account to use Wavello?
Yes. You need to be using the Lumina or ntouch products to initiate a Wavello call.
