Captioning Agent Spotlight

Our featured captioning agent this quarter, Donna Deal, may have grown up in Spokane, WA, but after spending a few years in Seattle, a stretch of time in Portland, and now over 20 years in Boise, she calls the entire Pacific Northwest region home.

With a history in customer service and a family history of hearing loss, Donna was a perfect fit when she joined the Sorenson team 11 years ago.

With that many years as a CaptionCall agent under her belt, she’s seen a lot of changes — most notably since the Covid-19 pandemic. She says that not only did the pandemic have a major impact on her day-to-day life as she and her team transitioned to remote work — which she still enjoys to this day — but also in terms of how she viewed the role of call captioning.

“I think that is the most important time I have spent as a captioner. So much information was being shared. And, for many people using their captioning phones was one of the few ways to connect with the outside world.”

When she’s not captioning phone calls, Donna loves to enjoy the great outdoors, music, Zumba, and traveling, including a recent cruise to the Eastern Carribean. But she also takes great pride in her home and the fact that she can put her skills to work helping others without leaving her own place of comfort and refuge.
