Understanding no-cost Video Relay Service (VRS)
No. Sorenson Video Relay and all other Video Relay Service providers are available at no cost to consumers.
All VRS companies are compensated through the same Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS) Fund established by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Sorenson receives compensation from the TRS Fund for each minute of interpreting for VRS calls.
Video Relay Service (VRS) allows Deaf individuals to make phone calls using American Sign Language (ASL) and a qualified interpreter via a videophone. The interpreter facilitates real-time communication between the Deaf caller and the hearing person on the other end. 
Both hearing and Deaf individuals can use VRS to communicate clearly and independently with each other over the phone. Whether it’s a parent calling a school or a Deaf teen calling a friend, VRS makes everyday communication fair and accessible.
