This Lifetime series enlists a team of conscientious designers, contractors, landscapers and other home improvement professionals to transform the homes of military families across the country. For season 36, the team has the honor of making Veteran Carlos Colón-Ruiz's dream home a reality.
Born in Puerto Rico, Colón-Ruiz joined the U.S. Army after high school. Following graduation, he was assigned to the 101st ABN in Fort Campbell, Kentucky." Then, he joined 1/506th INF — one of the most recognized units in the United States.
In 2008, Colón-Ruiz deployed to Afghanistan, where a rocket-propelled grenade struck his Humvee. The explosion resulted in serious injuries, including the loss of sight in one eye, hearing damage, the loss of two fingers, two paralyzed fingers, and visible scars on his face, head, and upper body. He's now among the many Veterans who wear hearing aids and wears hearing aids because he is completely deaf in his left ear (just like fellow Veteran Tony Lee), and his right ear is only 50 percent functional.

President George W. Bush awarded Colón-Ruiz a Purple Heart, and he also received an Infantry Badge and Army Commendations Medal. However, his decorated achievements extend beyond his military career. He is a single father to 26-year-old son Okland, 21-year-old daughter Mileyshka, and 14-year-old son Adrian.
Currently living in Arlington, Texas, Colón-Ruiz has kept up his military endurance while training to compete in Ironman races and marathons. And despite everything he’s lived through, he says he sees the beauty of what life is today.
