FAQs

If you have any questions about porting your number, you can email us at at [email protected] or call Customer Care.

Porting is the process of transferring your phone number from one VRS provider to another. When you port your number, you can continue using the same phone number even if you change your VRS provider. This way, your friends and family can still reach you at the same number!

Once you decide to port a number, you will need to complete a Letter of Authorization (LOA) form. It will ask for information — such as your name, phone number, address — to confirm that the number you are porting belongs to you and no one else. We will work with you on this.

Once we receive your signed LOA, we will start the process to transfer your VRS number to Sorenson, which will take a few days. Once the port is complete, you will receive a message and your old number will work with Sorenson. You can continue making and receiving calls just as before.

You can usually port regular phone numbers for home phones or cell phones. However, some special numbers, such as certain business or toll-free numbers, might not be portable. You can only port a number within the United States.

If you port a voice number to Sorenson VRS, all calls to that number from a hearing person will go through Sorenson VRS. Also, if that number was a cell phone number, you will not be able to use that number for texting, and if you want to continue to use that cell phone you will need to get another number from your cell phone service provider.

No, there is no cost to port a number from another VRS provider to Sorenson.
