Frequently Asked Questions

If you can’t find the answer to your question here, our Customer Care team would be happy to help.

Sorenson has the largest private interpreting workforce in the world, with roughly 6,000 interpreter employees—not freelancers or subcontractors. All of our interpreters pass stringent skills assessment as well as background and drug tests. Sorenson also offers an extensive interpreting training program to upskill our own interpreters as well as those who do not yet meet our exceptionally high standards. Sorenson’s expert interpreters provide Video Relay Service, Video Remote Interpreting, and on-site interpreting. We can fulfill requests for a variety of specialized interpreting needs, including certified legal interpreting, certified medical and mental health interpreting, DeafBlind interpreting, and Certified Deaf Interpreters.

Sorenson began offering Video Relay Services—ASL interpreted phone calls between Deaf and hearing individuals—roughly 20 years ago, in Spring 2003. We expanded our services to Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) about five years later and then added on-site community interpreting around 2015.

Depending on which of our interpreting solutions you use, the timeframe will vary, and choosing the right solution for your timing and circumstances will provide the best customer service. We recommend requesting several days in advance for on-site interpreting—even further out for specialized interpreting. For VRI scheduling, we may be able to accommodate requests with as little notice as a few hours.

You may opt for on-site or Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) for conferences and events. If you request VRI, Sorenson can accommodate nearly any video conferencing platform.

Customers who use our CART Captioning service have access to our CapStone portal to access all of their captioning sessions. After a session ends, users can find and download the raw transcript under the Completed Sessions tab. Customers may request a cleaned transcript, edited for formatting and with the option to remove filler words.
