FAQs
Explore our FAQs to learn more about Video Remote Interpreting services and how they can benefit your organization.
What is VRI?
VRI stands for Video Remote Interpreting. It’s a way to access interpreting services via an internet connection, with the participants and the interpreter able to see and hear each other on screen.
How does Video Remote Interpreting work?
When you request Video Remote Interpreting, we’ll arrange for an interpreter to join your meeting virtually. The interpreter will act as an additional member of the meeting, relaying messages between languages.
Does VRI happen in real time?
Yes, our interpreters relay your comments as you communicate. Speak as you would normally; there’s no need to speak more slowly.
What platform can I use for Video Remote Interpreting?
Sorenson can provide VRI service on nearly any meeting software or application.
What is the difference between VRI and VRS?
VRS (Video Relay Service) provides interpreted phone calls between Deaf and hearing individuals in different locations. It's part of the FCC-run Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) program, and a federally-managed fund covers the costs.
VRI (Video Remote Interpreting) is a paid service for businesses and organizations to support in-person or virtual interactions by connecting to an ASL interpreter over a video connection.
